Dropbox Trip Reflection Journal 04/24

So, while sophomores were taking PSATS and juniors were also taking SATS, a couple of us lucky Web seniors were able to go on an exciting trip to Dropbox. It was located near 23rd street on either the E or M train, which was very convenient for all of us. We had to be there at around 12:45pm, which was not possible and ended up getting there a little after 1. It affected us negatively as we were behind schedule, as well the Dropbox people said, so couldn't fully enjoy their working space and environment.
We got to the building and Dropbox was located on one of the floors. The other floors were also occupied by other companies such as SoundCloud, which I found to be very cool. Anyways, we take the elevator to go up to them and are greeted by this nice and warm lobby. We meet the lady named Sarah, which hosted the whole event for us. After greeting one another, we were finally able to walk in through the glass doors leading to office. Walking in, it felt like a very creative yet home sort of vibe due to the way the furniture was set up. I also noticed some stickers lying around so I took them for my laptop, LOL. Sarah walked us into a very small conference room they had, and in there, we meet the 4 panelists. Each one represented a different sector or different area of the company, which they either lead, work in, or represent as a speaker. They answered 4 questions each which revolved around their education, their past experiences working or in general, how they landed at Dropbox, and what sort of advice they'd give us as seniors going on to college and figuring out what it was that we want as a career.
Overall, I think this trip was insightful and very exciting. It's always nice to see how different companies have their offices set up and how that affects the way people work and cooperate with one another. Although Dropbox was pretty small for a NYC office, it accommodated itself to the needs and wants of the workers in a way. The people working there seem pleasant and happy and it motivated me to want to work the same. I also liked how they gave us pizza last minute, which was really nice of them. I really enjoyed this trip with my peers and getting to know yet more of another important technology-based company!
