CTE High School Fair 10/28/17

Image
On Saturday, October 28, 2017, I went to George Westinghouse High School to attend a NYC CTE High School Fair and volunteer my time to promote Information Technology High School. It lasted from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Mr. Vanderputen and Mr. Cordero were our teacher representing ITHS there. Some fellow seniors from both the web design academy and the video production academy came to help out and promote the school as well. The entire time that the fair went on, many parents and their children came to our booth to sign up for more information of our school to learn more and potentially become the next freshman for ITHS. Time after time, I would go around the cafeteria in to see what other high school's offered and what I would able to say to top them. Many parents seems quite intrigued after I explained them in depth about Web Design and seemed very interested. It wasn't a lot of work getting parents to come to our booth since our booth was quite outstanding to begin with. In...

WBL Workshop Reflection 10/23/17

Image
The WBL Workshop on Monday, October 23, 2017, was a quick assembly on discovering oneself's career DNA. DNA, represents Dynamic Natural Abilities, which can be found out by using the Holland Interest Code. This was presented by Ms. Lopez in the CCEC. She first introduced two females that were a part of the Green Thumb NYC movement going on around us for teens. This program persuaded kids/teens to go out there and work on neighborhood gardens, keeping the city clean, and doing several other work. This would count as community service, if done so, for the WBL Requirements to fulfill. After they briefly explained, Ms. Lopez gave us all a packet filled with worksheets. They consisted of "Career Party & Game You Play," "People, Date, Things," "Interests: What are your top 3 Interests?," "RIASEC," and "Career Cluster Interest Survey." We had to fill them out and went over what each worksheet meant to us and for our future. At the e...

Lab 5 Reflection

Image
Continuing what Lab 4 previously was, Lab 5 was somewhat the same thing yet more to use for in detail review. Lab 5 was named as JavaScript Review because Mrs. Ramirez gave use literally 5 different aspects of troubleshooting and to make buttons and forms work with JS. She gave us one piece of code after every 20 minutes in class to try and figure out whether we could make the code function or not. This was a way to test our persistence and ability to find errors in our coding. It was definitely a lot of practice to me because I was struggling with setting up simple JS related in my coding and going through this lab, it made me realize how much more I have yet to learn and improve on. The first part of the lab was to have a certain text disappear or change when pressing on a button using JS. The second part was to make sure the JS will add up the numbers and variables that are given in the code and will display the correct result on the website. The third part was to create...

Lab 4 Reflection

Image
So for Lab 4, after many discussing lessons and much time to practice using javascript and knowing how the JQuery Library link works, Mrs. Ramirez had somewhat challenged us by embedding all those skills into a website. The task at hand was to create animations on a div using javascript functions; she required the div to be a box as the original shape, there should be buttons for each different use which were: opacity, from box to circle, changing the box's size and having it move around on the screen. It seemed pretty easy when she put up the example on the board, but when she sent us to our tables and we started working on it, the whole class realized it wasn't as simple as we had believed so. It took me a really long time to figure out how to move the box, so I asked for peer help from Jose, since we both had about the same idea in mind. At the end, it was fun having to troubleshoot time after time, yet it was super stressful since my patience is short and I felt like gi...

PTC Meeting For CTE Web 09/30/2017

Image
Well, this PTC Meeting would count as both community service and extra credit for people in Web Design. It started at 6pm so I had to waste my time around the school building in order to not waste time and any money coming back and forth from place to place. I was taking a lunch break, had a bit of bowling practice and met with some friends at the nearby park. I entered the building at about 6pm to be exact and the meeting started 15 minutes later. A lot of actual parents did come by and heard what was necessary to hear from Mrs. Ramirez. A lot of children came with them as well. It nearly ended at about 7:30pm. We fixed the chairs and tables back up to make it nice and tidy again. I got extra credit, aside from community hours. because my mom had come. It was nice and relaxing day for me.

Basic JQ Structure Poster Reflection

Image
So after creating LABS 1-3, Mrs. Ramirez made us create a poster regarding what we did in all 3 of them. The poster was quite simple to create using either Microsoft Word or Photoshop CC 2017. Well, for my preference, I used Photoshop CC 2017 creating a new document in tabloid form. So the first things we did was screenshot the labs work which was the coding and how the site looked from the coding. It was quite easy. Then, I created the tabloid file and tried to somewhat arrange the pictures in a way that I could write a description in between, explaining what I did, step by step. I wrote a brief reflection for each lab, trying to summarize what I did. Then, I chose colors in order to make it pretty and stand out. Had to make sure all vital details were on it like my name, the class name, the periods and the date.    At the end, I had to make sure I printed my work and pinned it to the wall of our class's work. The printing took a while since a lot of people were...

Lab 3 Reflection

Image
Lab 3 was also a continuing lesson from Lab 2. Since in Lab 2, we learned how to work with javascript and its basic functionality. But afterwards, we moved onto what is something more complicated but yet simple. We learned what is a Jquery library; it was something we had already known of but had no clue what it exactly did. So, Mrs. Ramirez made us download a jquery library online and integrate that link into our html files. We had to make sure the jquery library was also put into our root directory or else our javascript work wouldn't properly function.       At the end, we added CSS to make our site somewhat pretty aside from the HTML work that was already implemented. I learned a lot about how jquery actually works out and I'm quite excited to learn more about it in the near future. Here is my HTML Coding of Lab 3: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <link rel="styl...

Lab 2 Reflection

Image
Well. the general idea for Lab 2 came from the previous lab. Lab 1 was our wireframe beta making website. For Lab 2, we basically used that same knowledge by setting up a simple html and css file. At first, we used internal css instead of external just for practice and since we were going step by step with Mrs. Ramirez, it was easier for all of us to use. But afterwards, she kept emphasizing how important it is to use external files because if one wanted to go back and edit the code, it would be easier and less troubleshooting with external. So we did that and once we had everything set up, we learned how to add javascript in the document. It was good to learn how to use javascript because it literally helps you accomplish many functions and jobs with one piece of code instead of many to accomplish one job.    I learned how to work with adding script inside my html file and will later on use these skills for future work. It was quite easy honestly.
