CTE EXPO Reflection
The CTE Expo is an event done in CTE Academies which are Web Design and Video Production that is yearly. The expo is basically a way to showcase the steady progress and completed works of each year which are sophomore, junior, and senior year. As a senior, this is actually my last one, which is very sad as I enjoy doing these. During the CTE Expo, there were plenty of objectives but I guess you can say the biggest one was to make sure freshman that came in and visited our class absorb every single concept to what makes the Web Design class. By displaying our past and present work, we are able to bring visuals to those who have no clue of what we do. Since it isn't some sort of class presentation, I tried to pair up with another senior and bring in about 3-4 freshman in order to showcase what it was that we do, our experience and encourage them in a way to apply for this course. I definitely made sure this day went by smoothly as I was business casual and prepared this the night before. I felt like this sort of attire really does create a more serious sense regarding our class and make us look all very presentable as well as professional. I also prepared myself for this day as I made sure all my websites were up and running with final touches. During the expo, I tried to describe what it was that I was presenting and then, get across the biggest highlights of Web and talk about my personal experience in a positive manner. I felt like this brought out my public speaking a lot as I continued to practice this throughout the day. After a lot of talking and explaining, I really do feel like I was able to reel in some freshmen to apply and somehow help them figure out what they want in their life for the future. Overall, freshmen varied from being nice and interested to others that kept walking around and ignoring me. I think what went well in the expo was that we were all organized, prepared with business casual outfits, and that most of us Web Students were engaged in presenting to freshmen. Almost every web student did come in with perfect attire which made us look like professional people about to offer jobs. The organization made things progress smoothly back and forth in the class. I feel like specific things that we should do is to improving on our social skills in order to engage much more students. As mentioned in class, if we were to make these expos more fun by adding games of some sort, it would motivated students to talk and learn more about the Web Design Academy. Having certain games to encourage students to talk and learn more about the Web Design Academy. At the end of the expo, I guess it was sad to see that this is truly our last year doing events like these. Its memories that are made at these events that become extremely rememberable and you'd wish you could back to do it again. Although, I did feel satisfied with myself as after 4 long periods of doing this, I felt like I was able to catch the attention of a few that would honestly succeed in this class. It really did bring about a joyous mood in the atmosphere in the class. I hope after this experience, we learn about what was good and bad and use it for future reference and become better at hosting events that inspire others.
